The Benefits of Eating Bananas

Ever since I was a kid, my favorite type of fruit to eat were bananas. Bananas are low in calories, very tasty and very sweet, plus they filled you up very fast. Whenever I got done playing outside with my friends I would usually come back inside my house to eat a few bananas. Besides being very tasty, bananas also have many health benefits to people that eat them.

Bananas contain a special type of protein called tryptophan. Tryptophan is very unique in that it is very important in the conversion of serotonin to melatonin, which is a very important compound and not only fighting depression but helping you to relax. Bananas are also rich source of vitamin B. vitamin D has always been associated with calming the nervous system down which also allows you to relax. Bananas have also been prescribed to people that have intestinal disorders, and this is because of its soft and smooth texture. Whenever I used to have constipation as a kid my parents used to always feed me bananas to loosen up my stool and this in turn would help me to get rid of the constipation faster than I normally would. Bananas are also very high in potassium which has always been known as a stress fighter, so during times of high stress it is always good incorporate the bananas into your diet. They are also high in iron, and iron is a very important mineral that is used in the production of hemoglobin. Just remember that the iron coming from bananas is non-heme iron which means most of it will not be absorbed unless it is eaten with a food that also has heme-iron, such as red meat. For you ladies that have morning sickness, having a banana or two will help keep your blood sugar levels on an even keel to avoid this problem.

The fact that bananas are so sweet means that you can use them as a substitute for foods and products that are high in manufactured sugar is called sucrose. The sugar and bananas is called fructose and the difference between these two sugars is that sucrose is absorbed really fast so it will give you a sugar high but will leave you coming crashing down to Earth, while fructose which is a natural sugar that is found in most fruits is absorbed at a much more even rate. Little do most people know, bananas are also a great topical agent as far as killing off warts. If you haven’t warts all you need to do is to grab a piece of banana skin, put it on the warped, with the inner skin placed on the warped and within a short while you’re wart problems will be cured.

While it may be hard for certain individuals, for some it’s really easy to start something new, but the problem is they can’t finish it. It is a well-known fact that many individuals are able to start a certain activity but as they go along with it, they often find themselves taking a different course. Some say that it is a basic nature of humans and that they often put off what they can do today for tomorrow. The fact is this is also true with health, fitness, and diet.

If by nature humans are like that, then prove to them that they are wrong. Start pursuing your dreams of attaining a healthy and fit state. You have to do your best to pursue any activity that you begun and make sure that you stay on track. When it comes to your health, fitness, and diet regimen, you shouldn’t settle for anything less.

The best way is to set your intended goals. Be certain that your goals are realizable, attainable and realistic. A Guide to the D Vitamin

function-of-the-D-vitaminThe D vitamin is the only vitamin that is not obtained from foods that are consumed. Instead, the D vitamin is actually obtained by sunlight on the skin. There has been a lot of media coverage about the dangers of getting too much sun but it is essential that the skin is exposed to sunlight to obtain the recommended daily allowance of the D vitamin. In reality, the amount of time that a person has to spend in the sun to receive a sufficient dose of the D vitamin is extremely small and just a few minutes a day will be sufficient and not have any adverse effects from the amount of ultra-violet light received.

The most important function of the D vitamin is to help control how much calcium is absorbed from food. The majority of the calcium is used to build strong teeth and bones but it is also needed to send messages along the nerves and to help muscles, such as the heart muscles, to contract. It is the D vitamin that ensures that there is always sufficient calcium in the blood to perform these tasks. Other functions that require the D vitamin relate to the immune system and it is believed that it is also a contributing factor in reducing the risk of contracting cancer and, in particular, colon cancer.

The variant of the D vitamin that is formed under the skin is known as vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol. This D vitamin is created when the ultraviolet in the sunlight reacts with a type of cholesterol that is found under the skin naturally. The D3 is converted into a more active form of the d vitamin in the liver and is then diverted to where it is needed the most. Some of the D vitamin remains in the liver and kidneys to help reabsorb the calcium from the blood. The rest of the D vitamin is dispersed to the bones to help them retain their calcium and the intestines to aid absorption of calcium from food.

Even though the majority of the D vitamin is formed through the exposure of the skin to sunlight there are some foods that do contain some of the vitamin naturally. This form of the D vitamin is known as vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol. This is used in the same way as the other D vitamins and is the type used to create the majority of D vitamin supplements.
